2023: A Year at the Greenhouse in Photos

The beginning

The year always begins the same - cleaning the greenhouses, ordering & treating seed and prepping containers all to be ready for sowing to begin in early February. Also, coffee! We start every season with a break table full of pastries and fresh java.

In 2023 we experimented with growing more plants in plug trays. Our seed sales also really took off with for our Western Montana Grass Mix and Western Montana Meadow Mix.

One of the biggest highlights of the year was visiting Washington D.C. for the National Native Seed Conference. Christine, Jeanne and I had a great week learning about seed mixes, studying different approaches to restoration and meeting leaders in the field. We also ate lots and lots of tasty food.

The Middle

Summer is one of the most delightful times at the nursery. Everything is blooming, everyone is happy and it's popsicle season!

Something that made 2023 special was the amount of the projects we were involved in. For some, it was providing plants such as a new perennial bed at Bitterroot Health and native pollinator plants for Skalkaho Bend Park in for a joint project by Bitterroot Audubon, Bitterroot Water Partnership (BWP) and the City of Hamilton. We also continued our work Water Wise Plant Packs in partnership with BWP.

We were also asked to design projects for residential projects throughout the Bitterroot. We had a lot of fun getting to know and work with our clients!

In addition to our plant packs, we hosted one seminar and a workshop all about Water-Wise for our local community with BWP. We were lucky to have an awesome host who will be taking care of our installation! Go and check it out this spring at the Bitterroot Aquatic Center. We had an equally fun group as well! Thanks to all our participants who made the actual installation, including removing several square feet of sod, a reality!

Getting Towards the End

There's never truly a dull time at the nursery! In the fall we are still paraded with blooms and get the satisfaction of sending our plants off to their forever homes.

Of course, we end the year by gathering our whole team together for a celebratory holiday party with lots of laughter and the hope for some rest over the holidays and the short window of time off we get during December and January.

Thanks for tuning in for our 2023 year in photos recap. We're excited for 2024!

THE END
